Gordon Banks

The standards that Gordon Banks set in the early 1960’s were phenomenal. He had great anticipation, faultless potential play, lightning reflexes, amazing bravery and superb athleticism and agility. Gordon Banks only conceded 56 goals in his 73 appearances for England, and kept 35 clean sheets in total for England. Gordon Banks save against Pele simply confirmed what the majority of people recognized in 1970- that Gordon Banks was the best goal keeper in the world. He won the world cup in 1966 with England. Banks spent six years playing in goal for Stoke City between 1966 and 1972 and helped the club win the league cup in 1972.

Peter Shilton

Shilton is England’s most capped ever football player as he played in goal a total of 125 occasions. He has played his football for a number of clubs, including, Leicester City, Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Southampton, Plymouth Argyle and Leyton orient. He played for the English national side during the 1982, 1986 and 1990 world cup finals. He is arguably the finest ever goal keeper this country has ever produced.

Garth Crooks

Crooks began his career playing for Stoke City in 1975, spending a total of five years at the club. His outstanding play up front earned him a move to Tottenham, spending five years with Spurs. He scored a goal in Tottenham’s thrilling 3-2 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in 1981. He went on to play for West Brom between 1985 and 1987 before moving to Charlton Athletic for £75000 at the start of the 1987-88 campaign. He is now a popular football presenter on television.
